There are so many awesome things going on each week that it can be a bit overwhelming. To narrow it down a bit, try one of these five ways to spend the weekend on the cheap:

  • On July 7, 2012, kids can build a moving truck during the free kids’ workshop at Home Depot. The workshop takes place from 9:00 a.m.-noon, and kids leave with their project, a free kid’s orange apron, commemorative pin, & certificate of achievement.
  • This week, you can participate in free & cheap crafts & demos at Michaels:
    • 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on July 3: Passport to Imagination: United States. Ages 3+
    • 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on July 5: Passport to Imagination: Kenya. Ages 3+
    • 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on July 6: Christmas in July Demo. Adult-only event
    • 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on July 7: Passport to Imagination: North Pole. Ages 3+
    • 11:30 a.m.-noon on July 8: MiDesign Michaels Demo. Adult-only event
    • 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on July 9: Christmas in July Demo. Adult-only event
    • 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on July 10: Passport to Imagination: Thailand. Ages 3+
  • The free Family Summer Camp will take place at participating Bass Pro Shops locations from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday through July 15. Details may vary by location, but most will have the following:
    • There’ll be a free shooting range (youth bow, soft-strike foam bow, or BB gun), free shooting arcade, & free casting targets.
    • From 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on Tuesday & Thursday, and 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday, you can make a free craft. On July 3 & 5, you can paint a bear track, and on July 7, 8, 10 & 12, you can stamp a leather wristband.
    • From 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday, you can get a free family photo.
    • From 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Saturdays only, stop by for a free S’mores cookout.
  • On Sunday, July 8, head to Williams-Sonoma for a DIY Canning: The Basics class.
  • If you show your Bank of America card, you’ll get free admission at participating museums & cultural attractions on the first full weekend of the month. The free admission offer is valid the cardholder only. Though the deals vary by location, here are a few of the freebies:
    • In metro-Atlanta, you can get free admission to the High Museum of Art, Atlanta History Center, Booth Western Art Museum & Tellus Science Museum.
    • In Richmond, your card is valid for free admission to the Children’s Museum of Richmond.
