To show their appreciation for active-duty military personnel & their families, the Blue Star Museums program will waive their admission fee at more than 1,500 museums in the U.S., American Samoa, + Puerto Rico from Memorial Day, May 28, through Labor Day, September 3, 2012.

The list of participating museums includes children’s museums, fine art museums, history and science museums, and nature centers. Here’s what you need to do to get the deal:

The deal applies to active-duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), National Guard and Reserve members and up to five immediate family members. You’ll need to show a Geneva Conventions CAC ID or a DD Form 1173 or 1173-1 ID card, including those stamped URW and DB, at the museum admission desk to get in free. Spouses of those deployed may bring the DD Form 1173 or 1173-1 ID card to take advantage of the program. Children under the age of 10 without a military ID must be accompanied by an appropriate ID holder.
