I love parks. Local parks, state parks, national parks. I’m not picky. I just like having places to hike, explore, and relax that aren’t filled with traffic & smog.

Want to check out a few national parks on the cheap? Pick a fee-free weekend to go, and you won’t need to pay entrance fees, commercial tour fees, or transportation entrance fees to visit more than 100 national parks.

During National Park Week, which runs April 21-29, 2012, admission is free.

Can’t make it? Here’s the schedule for the rest of 2012′s fee-free days:

  • June 9: Get Outdoors Day
  • September 29: National Public Lands Day
  • November 10-12: Veterans Day Weekend

Not all national parks charge a fee. For instance, at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in GA, we can hike up & around the mountain and park for free year-round. To make the most of the deal, plan to spend the fee-free weekends at the 100+ national parks that typically charge a fee.
