Cheap Tickets to King Tut in Indianapolis and San Francisco

Posted By admin on July 1, 2009

Two exhibitions of King Tut artifacts are currently touring the U.S.: “Tutankhamun: The Golden King & the Great Pharaohs” will be in Indianapolis through October 2009, and “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs” will be in San Francisco through March 2010.

I saw one of the exhibitions when it came through Atlanta, and it’s amazing. The ticket prices are stunning, too. Ouch. But you can still save. Here are a few deals for each:

Indianapolis:

  • Thanks to a ticket deal Julie found on TravelZoo, you can save 30% on tickets during the month of July. Adult tickets are $17.50 each Monday-Thursday (reg. $25), and $21 on Friday-Sunday (reg. $30). Tickets for kids ages 2-17 are still $15 each.
  • Members of the Indianapolis Children’s Museum save even more with member pricing: Tickets are $15/Adult and $8/Child (ages 2-17).
  • Skip the family four pack. At $20/ticket, you’re not saving much, especially since that’s $5/ticket more than a child’s ticket at regular price.
  • Make sure to ask for your Star Tut Card to take advantage of other discounts in Indianapolis.

“Tutankhamun: The Golden King & the Great Pharaohs” will be at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum through October 2009. 3000 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis. 317-334-3322.

San Francisco:

  • Bay Area on the Cheap posted several deals on its site. If you buy tickets with your AMEX and use promo code AXPTUT, you’ll save 20% on adult tickets, making them $22 on Monday-Thursday and $26 on Friday-Sunday.
  • In San Francisco, the Family Four Pack is a decent value on Monday-Thursday if you’re planning to do the audio tour. You’ll receive two adult tickets and two child tickets (age 6-17) plus four audio tours for $24.95/person on Monday-Thursday and $27.25/person on Friday-Sunday. If one or both of your two kids are under 6, skip it. They don’t need a ticket, and you’ll overpay if you include them.
  • Make sure to ask for your Pharaoh’s Gold Card to take advantage of other discounts in San Francisco.
  • While you’re in San Francisco, remember to check out Bay Area on the Cheap to find even more free & cheap things to do.

“Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs” will be at the de Young Museum in San Francisco through March 2010. 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Dr., San Francisco. 415-750-3600.

FYI—During the exhibition’s Atlanta run, cheaper ticket deals & packages became available a couple of months before it left town. Keep an eye out on Ticketmaster’s King Tut listings for any type of “Matinee” or “After Hours” pricing. And general admission tickets are cheaper on Monday-Thursday than Friday-Sunday, so skip the crowds & save money by going during the week. To make it a better deal, avoid the fees by buying tickets at the box office, if possible.
